UP-PLA

The UP-PLA Project aims to develop innovative pathways to transform waste bioplastics into valuable products. UP-PLA leverages on a hybrid photobiocatalytic strategy, combining the power of light-driven chemistry with the selectivity of biocatalysis.

Description

The UP-PLA Project, entitled “Boosting plastic upcycling with a hybrid photobiocatalytic approach”, is a research project supported by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) under the FIS 2 Call (Code FIS 2023-01444).

The goal of UP-PLA is to move beyond simply managing plastic waste and instead develop innovative pathways to transform bioplastics into valuable, reusable products. At the heart of UP-PLA is a hybrid photobiocatalytic strategy, combining the power of light-driven chemistry with the selectivity and efficiency of biocatalysis.

We will be working in close connection with our partners Lorenzo Malavasi and Chiara Samorì to explore the science, overcome the challenges, and contribute to a more circular and sustainable plastics economy.
